How to Setup the SmartBits 600/6000 Chassis

Introduction

The purpose of this document is to provide step-by-step instructions on how to configure the terminal server
and setup the following on the SmartBits chassis:

Components Used

The following components were used to connect to and configure the SmartBits chassis
Terminal server settings

Configuring the terminal port settings

Step 1: Click on Start, Programs, Accessories, Communications, Hyperterminal
Step 2: Name the icon, SMB
Step 3: In the "Connect To" window, click the "Connect Using" drop down menu and select the correct COM port

Step 4:
Configure the COM port settings as show below


Step 5: Click OK and it should automatically connect to the chassis

Configuring the IP Address, Subnet Mask, Default Gateway, and speed/duplex

Step 6: Enter Super User mode by typing at the prompt, SU, and enter the default password, SMB-6000 (case-sensitive)
Step 7: Set the chassis IP address, subnet mask, default gateway, and hard-code the speed/duplex to 10/half

NOTE: It is recommended to hard-code the speed and duplex to 10/half.

The following will be used in this example:

Commands to enter at the terminal:
SU>>ipaddr 10.10.10.10
SU>>netmask 255.255.255.0
SU>>gateway 10.10.10.1
SU>>eth set 10 half
SU>>save
SU>>reboot
